Flower Cupcakes in Bloom Class
Our Flower Cupcakes in Bloom Class is all about flowers, spring and summer and pretty little cakes. We will teach you to make gorgeous delicate, life-like little and fantasy flowers that work both as cupcake toppers and on big cakes. This class is suitable for beginners and intermediate (although beginners can also attend our Cupcakes Basics class if they so choose). As with all our classes, you can attend in any order if you want to attend more than one.
Class Times and Equipment
This class starts promptly at 10.15 and runs to 5pm. Everything is explained to you step by step and all equipment is provided for you.
What You Will Learn
Our flowers are truly breath-taking and full of the warm and pretty colours of summer. We will teach you:
- How to make flowers of all kinds and the secret to making flowers that really stand out from the rest.
- How to use all kinds of cutters and techniques to make flowers.
- How to make free hand flowers with no cutters.
- How to make wired flowers.
- How to make little daffodils, tulips, orchids, roses, carnations, hydrangeas, daisies, lavender, blossoms, petunias and many more flowers.
- How to make realistic flowers and how to make fantasy flowers and which methods work for different events.
- How to make tiny roses that can be set in a rose bouquet or cover your cake.
- How to present flowers on cupcakes and what groupings work best and why.
- How to work with stamen and pollen centres.
- How to work with buttercream and flat and dome ice cupcakes to achieve a smooth perfect finish.
- How to pipe grass with a grass nozzle to a more textured effect.
- How to work with gold detailing.
- How to work with lustres, shimmers and tints.
- How to work with moulds for a different texture and effect.
- How to work with colour
Many of our flower making skills are transferable so once you have mastered the basic techniques (which you will do during the day), you will have opened a whole new world of creativity. This class really is a launch pad for your imagination.
Whether you are making cupcakes as a hobby, for a friend or family birthday, baby shower or hen night or perhaps even for your own (or a friend’s) wedding, this is the class for you (although see our Wedding Cupcakes class for those who are looking for specific wedding cupcake techniques and advice).
Flowers and Colours
We will teach you how to work with colours so you can colour all your flowers and teach you which colours complement each other and which to avoid! Understanding colour and colour schemes is critical to turning out cupcakes that stand out from the crowd.
Decorating your cupcakes
You will each be given 12 cupcakes that have been freshly baked on the day of the class. You will then be shown how to decorate these with buttercream and flowers in the best way possible so that you leave at the end of the day feeling very confident about your flower making skills. At the end of the class, you will pack all your cupcakes in a beautiful presentation box ready to take them home to show them off to your friends and family. They will be truly amazed at what you have achieved in one day.
This class focuses on decoration and the majority of the day is spent doing this so you won’t bake the cupcakes from scratch as there isn’t enough time in the day. If you want to learn how to make the cupcakes themselves, see the Cupcake Basics class or the Fondant and Flavours Class . If you are doing both classes, it does not matter if you do this class before the Cupcakes Basic class. Of course, if you have questions about baking, there will be plenty of time to ask as many questions of you like whether about ingredients, equipment, flavours or styles.

Take Home Fact Pack
You will be given a fact sheet describing the techniques you learnt during the day so you can refresh your mind next time you bake. Of course, there are also lots of tips on our Facebook page
We supply lots of tea and coffee throughout the day and you can take breaks whenever you wish. We have a lovely coffee area attached to the kitchen where everyone can relax during lunch (although we often find people so engrossed in their flower making that they continue right through their lunch!).
You can ask as many questions as you want throughout the day, tell stories to your fellow class mates and have a thoroughly fun time. It is impossible not to have fun and laugh a lot during this day. It is just very therapeutic and will remind you of your childhood days playing with play-do!
