This is THE class for Shoe lovers around the world!   In 2013, the world famous and award winning Kaysie Lackey of the The People’s Cake will be flying back to see us at Pretty Witty Cakes all the way from Seattle, USA to teach her amazing chocolate shoe class.

What you will learn in the Designer Shoe Class

In this class you can recreate an exquisite pair of high heeled sparkling silver shoes complete with their own designer box – perfect for any party.  The entire cake (and the box) can be made from cake although Kaysie advises using dummies for the first time you make the cake whilst learning the skill.  You will work on a dummy cake in the class but the skills and methods are the same for a real cake. During the class, Kaysie will show you:

• How to carve intricate and detailed shapes
• How to make angular sharp finishes to replicate a shoe box
• How to make perfectly smooth rounded sides  for your shoes
• How to work with modelling chocolate
• The tricks and tools of the trade for making any kind of edible shoe
• How to use dowels effective when carving intricate designs
• How to make your shoes sparkle
• How to colour fondant effectively on larger surface areas
• How to create a perfect finish on irregular surfaces on cakes when working in chocolate
• Hot to make edible tissue paper for your shoes to sit in their edible box!

This is a great opportunity to learn impressive skills and techniques from one of the USA’s most talented sugar artists and a Food Network TV star!  You will leave the course with all the skills to create a fabulous box of cake shoes.  What more could a girl want!

Your Tutor

Kaysie Lackey (see Tutors page) is one of the USA’s most talented sugar artists and a fabulous teacher.  Her cakes are recognised worldwide for their artistry and originality and she has won numerous awards and featured in several TV shows in the States.  Kaysie pushes the cake boundaries to extremes and has made cakes which literally make your jaw drop.

Level

This class is suitable for intermediate and professional level cake makers.  The carving and construction techniques are advanced but provided you have covered a cake before you will be able to participate. If you have never covered a cake in sugarpaste before, this class is not recommended or we would recommend you attend our Two Tier Big Cakes class first.

Course Date and Times

The Designer Shoe Class is a two day course.  It will be running again in June 2013.

Equipment

For this class, we provide EVERYTHING you need!  Unlike other venues, we don’t expect you to make anything in advance – you just need to bring yourself. Please note that Kaysie strongly recommends that when learning how to make this cake you make it from a dummy cake so you can keep the dummy forever as something to copy the next time you make the cake.  We will provide everyone with the dummy cake.

All you will need to bring is:

• an apron
• a packed lunch
• a sturdy box big enough for a 18 inch square base.

Pretty Witty Cakes never surprise you with hidden costs unlike other venues so you will not be sent any additional equipment list before the class.  The only things you need to bring are those things listed above.  We will provide EVERYTHING else for you.

Location: Our Designer Shoe Class is based at Pretty Witty HQ in a bright, spacious and airy 40 foot kitchen in Crowborough (TN6) on the Kent, East Sussex border.

Travel: We can assist with all travel arrangements including advising on trains and flights, pick up from the airport or train station.  For those coming by car, we have ample private and enclosed parking at the house.
