Overview

In this Project, Pretty Witty Cakes' Guest Tutor Sachiko Windbiel shows you how to make her style of beautiful faces and upper bodies as demonstrated on a Hula girl. Designed for a beginner, this tutorial takes you through from basics steps to the completed model.

What you will learn

This Project is all about learning to make a Sachiko Windbiel style face and upper body on a Hula girl - the same cakes that Sachiko had on display at Cake International, London 2014. During the online class, you will learn:

Top tips for modelling
How to properly use a scalpal / X-acto knife when modelling
Holding fondant properly
Ensuring a clean finish to your characters
How to make Sachiko style eyes - of differing colours
How to make the nose and mouth
How to make skin colour
How to make the face and head
How to make a Hula Girl body
How to make shoulders and arms and techniques for the neck
How to model arms and fingers
What to do if you go wrong with hands and how to correct them
How to make hair and reshape faces

Sachiko will show you all her own methods for making characters and her very unique faces which result in a fully edible end product. This is a fantastic project for anyone new to making fondant people who want to specialise in facial details.

How do the Projects work?

These are just amazing!! I'm so inspired... (starts getting out sugar craft supplies) Some of your hula girls have white teeth. Do you just add a sausage of white when you do the deep cut for the mouth? Hope you make lots more tutorial videos. L xx

THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR WATCHING! I’m Glad you had fun!

REGARDING THE CLOSED EYES; With the gum paste eyeballs already in the head of the Hula Girl, grab a small pinch of skin colored fondant that you used to make the head and pat it down over the eyeball, gently shaping it into place. FOR THE EYELASH DETAIL: Roll out a small piece of black fondant into a small, thin string and fit it into the lower area of the closed eye, creating the upturned crescent of the eyelashes.

ABOUT THE TEETH: CAREFULLY make a deep cut into the face and wedge the cut open by pressing the outside of the head with your fingers. Then deposit a fat rice grain's worth of white fondant or white gum paste ( I prefer using the gum paste) and then work the mouth around that fondant/paste to create a bright smile.
