Overview

In this Project, Pretty Witty Cakes' Guest tutor Tammy Barrett shows you how to make her signature Gordhen the Chicken cake! This cake is gravity defying.

This Project is all about creating a hard and secure structure to hold your cake along with shaping, fondant covering and creating a lot of detail to make your cake look just like Gordhen. You will learn the secret to making structured cakes, how to create them from scratch and how to use them in a food-safe way. You'll also learn how to carve and shape cake, create a neat feathered texture and how to make a cartoon-esque chicken full of expression and charm.

What you will learn

This cheeky chicken project is all about making a solid base structure, how to create a cake on top and ways to decorate a unique novelty cake. You will learn:

How to put together a structured cake from the very basics
How to work with internal supports
How to ensure they are food safe
How to work with advanced shapes and rice kripsie treats (RKT)
How to suspend RKT
How to cover bumpy and unusual surfaces
How to carve and shape your cake into the body of a hen
Which fondant and colours to use
How to cover this unique shape in fondant without tearing
How to make the feather texture
How to make a chain necklace
How to create the colourful plumage feathers
How to make and add the animated facial expressions
How to airbrush the various small details of the cake
How to make a wooden floor panel effect for the cover of the board

At the end of the Project you will have a crazy-good cake design which will definitely impress your family and friends!

Did you post the cake recipe? This is a great class! I absolutely love that I join Pretty Witty Cakes. I joined another site for three months but I will not be renewing my membership after the three months. The instructor explains everything very well and is easy to follow. Hello all! You can use any sponge, mud or other cake although avoid carrot cake or fruit cake as they have hits in making them hard to carve. We have filmed a video with all sorts of recipes we use coming soon (in the next few weeks) but see the magazine issue 5 for lots of recipes :)

No need to enlarge the templates. They are printed on grids so you can print on USA and English paper sizes and still see everything :)
