Overview

In this Project, Pretty Witty Cakes' tutor Leesa Collins shows you how to make an open Book Cake. This style of cake is fabulous for christenings, weddings, birthday parties (for adults and children alike).

The book can be transformed into any book of your choice whether Harry Potter, the recipient's favourite novel or even a photo album!

What you will learn

In this Project you will learn:

How to cut and carve a cake into an open book shape
How to ganache a cake to give a smooth finish including on angles
How to cover your book cake with fondant
How to create pages within a book
How to airbrush your cake for a realistic finish
How to create writing on paper for the pages of the book
How to make a wood grain effect on a board and to stain it wood colour
How to finish your cake with details such as a book mark using embossing tools.

You said you leave the ganache cake over night, I was told since it made with heavy cream you have to keep it in the fridge , or do you leave it at room temperature. I live in NEw Mexico and right now it's been cold, so hoping I can keep cake on the counter instead of my fridge, but afraid to .

You don't need to keep a ganached cake in the fridge as long as weather is not too hot. I tend to only store ganache in the fridge if I am not using it then take it out the night before I need it
