In this Project, Pretty Witty Cakes' tutor Leesa Collins shows you how to make this giant Halloween Pumpkin cake.
This Project is all about creating a carved, double layer cake with a central support. If you want to learn how to start to build up the layers on your cakes so they become taller but remain structurally sound, this is the Project for you. This Project will cover everything you need to know about making the structure and carving the cake as well as the full decoration. Once you have mastered these skills, you will be starting to increase your skills repetoire to more difficult cakes.
What you will learn
This Project is all about perfecting a carved and structured cake which is perfect for a Halloween party. It can also be used for Thanksgiving without using the face. You will learn:

-
How to carve the pumpkin so it maximises the cake and minimises waste (there is barely any wastage on this cake)
-
How to create the pumpkin effect in grooves
-
How to carve out a face from the pumpkin cake to see a black inside.
-
How to cover complex shapes without tearing fondant or leaving big holes.
-
How to create runners and the stalks
-
How to work with an airbrush to build up colours (you can also work with orange fondant and dusts, tints or edible paints)
At the end of the Project you will have a fabulous cake that with scary Halloween twist. You can adapt it to make it more child like, female or funny if you prefer.
